In order for the imprint to work correctly, you need to “train” the system in this.
To do this, you need to put your finger (no matter which one) on the sensor several times and wait for a notification about a successful scan.
If everything is done correctly, then you save valuable time when unlocking, while gaining additional protection from intruders who may covet the device.
Unfortunately, it has one small drawback. The finger you have chosen must be clean and dry, otherwise the system simply does not recognize it.
So it is better to remember the password just in case.
Visually, the differences between the models are insignificant. The “uninitiated” is unlikely to guess which model lies in front of him. But hardware 5S is really “stronger”.
On the other hand, the difference in devices is not so significant as to run to the store and buy an updated version of the device with an innovative sensor.

Since the presentation of the new Apple iPhone 5S / C smartphones, which took place on September 10, 2013. I was looking forward to the opportunity to take a closer look and, of course, live to get acquainted with the new products. Yes, and not one new model appeared, but two at once (for the first time in the history of the iPhone). Well, the day has come when 2 boxes lie in front of me: a cardboard one with an iPhone 5S and a plastic one with an iPhone 5C. Well, let's get started.
1. Packaging and kit for iPhone 5S.
Almost indistinguishable from the box of a regular iPhone 5 (only in the image and inscriptions), white cardboard packaging, sealed with plastic wrap.
I will warn you right away so that you are not surprised - iPhone 5S 32Gb ME308LL / A (Model A1533) from USA.
We open the box. The first thing you can see is the device itself, of course, in a standard plastic substrate. The screen and the back are covered with a protective film.
Under the backing is a small envelope with a booklet, an information leaflet and stickers in the form of an Apple apple. The so-called "clip" to remove the SIM tray is missing, which is not surprising for the iPhone from America.
The rest of the kit is familiar to us from the iPhone 5, everything is unchanged: a USB power adapter (in our case, a small square one), a Lightning to USB cable and, in a separate box, Apple EarPods with a remote control and a microphone
2. Packaging and kit for iPhone 5C.
The box from the iPhone 5C is very similar to the packaging from the iPod Touch, only thicker. Opaque white plastic main body and a transparent top cover through which the iPhone itself is visible. The parts of the package are interconnected by a transparent narrow tape around the entire perimeter.
We peel off the tape, open the lid and we have an iPhone 5C fixed in a special transparent plastic substrate and with a film pasted on the display, imitating the iOS 7 work screen.
I forgot to point out that we have an iPhone 5C 16Gb ME502DN/A (Model A1507) from Germany. The kit is almost the same as that of the 5S, only there are more pieces of paper, there is a "clip" for removing the SIM card tray and a European power adapter, i.e. absolutely compatible with our sockets.
Well, about the kits and all. It is a pity that the rumors were not confirmed (you could even see the unboxing video from China) that there is a Micro USB to Lightning adapter in the kit. Alas, this did not happen.
3. Visual comparison of 5S and 5C
A little about something else. Externally, the iPhone 5S practically does not differ from the iPhone 5. The color has changed slightly, the Home button has become without a drawn square and the camera flash has become double. But we will talk about this in detail in a separate review about 5S.
Now we begin to compare 2 new devices with each other. The difference is least noticeable when viewed from the front.
First of all, in our case, a green frame around the perimeter of the screen and a drawn square on the Home button of the 5C catches the eye. In 5S, the frame is less noticeable, and the button is more prominent along the contour. The difference in dimensions in height and width is almost imperceptible: 123.8 mm x 58.6 mm for the 5S versus 124.4 mm x 59.2 mm for the 5C.
The rear view (as well as from all other sides) is more different, if not completely different. 5C has solid plastic (and the whole body is a monolithic plastic "trough" :)), while 5S has metal and glass

The 5C has only one microphone hole, the 5S has 2 rows of 5. For the speaker, the 5C has only 4 holes, and the 5S has as many as 2 rows of 8.

4. Tactile sensations / ergonomics smartphones.
Well, here, as you understand, only personal impressions, and the size of the hands / fingers is different for everyone, and everyone has their own way of using the gadget. The general conclusions are that both devices are almost equally easy to use. All controls are easily accessible, and even for users with a small hand, it is very easy to operate the device. As for the weight, the models differ in this parameter: 5S - 112 gr., 5C - 132 gr. The 5C has a slightly different feel in the hand due to the plastic body and smooth edges on the back. The 5S feels indistinguishable from a regular iPhone 5. Metal and glass are very pleasant to feel in the palm of your hand, a more pronounced edge on the back is familiar to those who have recently used Apple smartphones (4/4S/5). But there is one personal but .... As in the case of the 5th iPhone, the new models seem a little slippery to me, there is no certainty that the device will not fall out of my hand. Again, this is purely my personal opinion. Many people use the devices perfectly and do not complain. But I still remain a supporter of covers / bumpers. Yes, and for the smartphone is calmer, less likely to damage when dropped. I don't know what made Apple choose glossy smooth plastic for the iPhone 5C, it seems to me that the Soft-touch coating of the case would be more practical and ergonomic. Although branded cases released along with smartphones will help protect, decorate and diversify the appearance of the devices, and will also help those (like me) who find the case of new products a little slippery.
5. Resume.
Both novelties turned out to be quite aesthetic, comfortable and provide a wide choice for customers - "for every taste and color." 2 models with different characteristics and case materials, 3 memory sizes, 3 different colors for 5S and 5 different colors for 5C case. So the choice is yours.

This year, the cards got even more confused - a completely new product appeared, "junior". It became even more difficult to understand. Well, let's try to do it!
How will we compare?
Below we will talk about the main parameters of the iPhone 5, iPhone 5C and iPhone 5S - performance, hardware, software, camera, design. And, of course, let's think a little about the price in the light of all these factors.
Device hardware and performance
As for the internal device, it was known in advance that the iPhone 5C is, in fact, the same iPhone 5. On board is the same A6 processor, which has two cores and a clock speed of 1.3 gigahertz. In principle, even today, more than a year after the release of the iPhone 5, this is quite a decent processor for a smartphone.
The iPhone 5S has a new A7 processor, equipped with an additional M7 chip (taking on a number of background tasks) and made in 64-bit architecture. Apple claims that the new processor is twice as powerful as the previous one. Some tests do show that others are somewhat more modest - but in any case, the new processor is head and shoulders above the old one, and this is obvious.
The amount of RAM in all three devices is the same - 1 GB. As for the built-in memory, here the iPhone 5C has a drawback - it does not have a 64 GB option, unlike the "five" and 5S.
The display has not changed significantly since the fifth version - Apple did not "repair what did not break" until the release of the iPhone 6. Batteries are practically similar - although their capacity slightly increases in terms of the “seniority” of models, there is no significant difference.
The iPhone 5S has another significant difference from the 5 and 5C, which are generally similar in terms of technical characteristics. This is the much-controversial fingerprint sensor. We have already posted about it, where the issue is considered in detail; therefore, for now, we will only note that this is a very successful decision by Apple, pushing the use of a PIN code, which was not very convenient before.
Quite an important aspect, which should be discussed separately. Support for the most modern standard of mobile communication in the three discussed devices is carried out in different volumes.
iPhone 5S and iPhone 5C support 13 LTE frequencies, more than any other smartphone on the market. Of course, the important question is, how will things be with LTE in Russia? After all, it is known that today iPhones with Russian LTE do not work at all.
According to Russian media, in the coming weeks, Apple will allow the iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c to work in LTE networks. Presumably, Beeline will be the first domestic operator that will be able to provide owners of new iPhone models with access to fourth-generation networks.
But the “five” will not get such an opportunity.
Software
iOS 7 was initially installed on the new generation - 5S and 5C, but nothing, of course, prevents you from updating the operating system to the seventh version and on the "five". However, it is quite obvious that the new 64-bit OS is designed for the x64 processor installed in the iPhone 5S (we can confidently say that subsequent processors in the iPhone will be 64-bit).
So far, the difference is not too noticeable, since most of the applications have not yet been optimized for the new architecture. However, it is only a matter of time, and not for long. And now complaints about the speed of iOS 7 concern only the iPhone 5.
Camera
As in other "iron" aspects, here the iPhone 5C is almost no different from its predecessor. The main camera on both devices is the same, while the front camera on the iPhone 5C is better adapted to low light - not a very significant change, but still.
As for the iPhone 5S, the user gets a new iSight camera with it. In terms of most technical characteristics, it would seem to be similar to the previous one. However, there are actually important differences.
Firstly, the aperture ratio has seriously increased - up to f / 2.2, and this is really a significant advantage. Not every lens, even a SLR camera, can boast of such a diaphragm - what can we say about mobile devices! In addition, iSight has a new "multi-color" flash, fast continuous shooting and the ability to record "slow" videos.
If we turn from dry figures to more “subjective” criteria, then we cannot but admit that it has become much higher. For those who care about high quality mobile photography, buying an iPhone 5S is a very meaningful step.
Design
And here is really something to talk about.
Outwardly, the 5S does not differ from the previous generation of Apple smartphones in anything, except for the new color scheme - “gold”. In the order of customization, it was used before, but now you can immediately buy an iPhone in this color.
But the iPhone 5C is really something new. Firstly, plastic has replaced the metal case. This plastic, of course, is of high quality, very pleasant to the touch and, no doubt, has sufficient mechanical strength. Considering that most smartphones on the market have a plastic case, there is nothing wrong with this decision.
As everyone already knows, the iPhone 5C is available in as many as five color options - white, blue, yellow, green and pink. In addition, the manufacturer provides special perforated covers of various colors for it, which further expands the aesthetic possibilities.
Of course, not everyone needs a color smartphone - but this is really a fresh decision for Apple. The design of the iPhone 5C has become much brighter and, so to speak, "youthful" - someone will like it.
The dimensions of the models are similar, but the iPhone 5C weighs a whole 21 grams more than the 5 and 5S. Someone will not like it, someone will decide that a more "weighty" phone is better - a matter of taste.
What conclusions can we draw?
If we compare the iPhone 5S with the “five”, then a big technological step forward is obvious. A fundamentally new level of performance, the transition to 64-bit architecture, a much more advanced camera (which, however, was one of the best among smartphones before) - all these are significant arguments in favor of not waiting for the iPhone 6, and changing the gadget right now . The price of the new device is quite consistent with the technical step forward that it has made.
But the iPhone 5C is a very "niche" solution. This is the same iPhone 5, just got a new case and pre-installed iOS 7. The only thing that can make him buy (apart from the purely psychological fact of the "last generation iPhone") is the design. If the iPhone has always seemed too strict to you, or for some reason you do not like metal cases, then the 5C is worth paying attention to.
There are simply no other differences. However, here Apple acted quite honestly - the price of the iPhone 5C is not too different from the cost of the "outdated" model. Probably, in many ways, 5C is aimed at those who do not yet have an iPhone at all, or there is a fourth version. It is not intended to lure the owners of the "five".
For Apple, the development of custom gadgets is not just a commercial "dream", but a goal that developers have to face every day. But the appearance of a smartphone, original even among Apple developments, is something new. This is exactly what the iPhone 5C turned out to be. Partly due to its appearance, but more on that below. So, you should figure out what the engineers of the corporation have introduced fundamentally new this time.

It is impossible not to notice that the design of the iPhone 5 is very different from the design of the iPhone 5C. If the first version combined rigor, rich appearance and minimalism, then in the C-version the first two points the designers decided to dismiss, leaving one "warrior" in a cruel field. It's not only the color design that differs, which has migrated from a monochrome range to a category of defiantly bright shades (Lumia involuntarily comes to mind). Among other things, the "fifth" iPhone uses the iOS 6 operating system, and the "5C" - iOS 7.
And the last thing that deserves attention is Apple's financial policy regarding the iPhone 5. According to the official statement, it will be discontinued, and the "5C" and "5S" versions will come in its place.
